After You Purchase Your Boat

boat registration applicationOnce you have made the purchase of a brand new boat You will be very thrilled – as you should to be!  The first thing you will want to do is celebrate with family and friends, you deserve it.  You should not rush out on the water right away after the purchase. You have some things to take care of first.

If you are new to boating, you ought to take a boat
safety course first as there is a lot to know about
boats.  Being out on the water is a lot of fun,
but there are boating safety rules you need to know and
should always be aware of.

After purchasing your boat, you should fill out the appropriate
boat registration forms to register it and if need be re-title the
boat and trailer.  Pay any sales tax that are due, get your boat
registration numbers  and  apply any up to date registration
stickers that you need to.  Also, ensure you purchase
the correct insurance for your boat, since it will
protect you when you are on the water.

When you take your initial trip on the water, you
should do so with a competent and experienced boater.
Have them show you manouvering and turning in tight
spaces, as well as trailering and docking.  Practice docking in
different conditions and currents and take the helm with the
experienced boater there to assist you.  Get sufficently
comfortable at the helm to where you’ll feel at ease taking
other people out for a trip on your boat.
